Ingredients and substitutions

Close up of cherry and straw in a blue drink.
  • Blue curaçao - Adds citrus flavor and blue color.
  • Peach schnapps - Adds fruity peach flavor.
  • Clear rum - Can be substituted with vodka or gin if preferred.
  • Club soda - I like to use club soda in this recipe to keep the cocktail light and refreshing. However, club soda can be substituted with clear soda like Sprite for a sweeter flavor.
  • Maraschino cherry - Can be substituted with a strawberry slice, orange slice, or peach slice on the rim. Red and white striped straws also look nice for the Fourth of July.

How to make a Fourth of July cocktail

  1. Fill a highball glass with ice.
  2. Add blue curacao, peach schnapps, and rum.
  3. Top with club soda and gently stir.
  4. Garnish with a cherry and serve.

How to batch cocktails

Want to make a large batch of Fourth of July cocktails for a party?

  1. Calculate how many servings you'd like to make ahead of time and multiply the recipe as needed. For example: to make 12 servings, you'll need 12 ounces of each liquor and 48 ounces of club soda.
  2. Add equal parts blue curacao, peach schnapps, and rum to a pitcher and stir to combine.
  3. Cover and store until ready to serve.
  4. Add ice to glasses, pour 3 ounces of prepared liquor into each glass, then top with 3-4 ounces of club soda.
A red and white striped straw is the perfect addition to this blue cocktail.

Garnish ideas

To make your drinks more festive, try adding fun garnishes like these:

  • Patterned paper straws
  • Glittery swizzle sticks
  • Maraschino cherry (pictured)
  • Strawberry slice
  • Orange slice
  • Peach slice
  • Red sanding sugar rim

Frequently asked questions

Can I make a large batch ahead of time?

Yes, add equal parts of your liquors to a pitcher and store until ready to serve. Portion into glasses and top with club soda just before serving. We're adding the club soda just before serving to ensure it doesn't go flat.

How do I make my cocktail sweeter?

Substitute the club soda with clear soda like Sprite or 7up.

Where did you buy your red striped straws?

I got mine on Amazon: 100 pack disposable red striped straws

Notes

  • Batching cocktails: To make a large batch of cocktails to serve at a party, calculate how many cocktails you'd like to make ahead of time, then multiply each ingredient as needed. Add equal parts rum, blue curacao, and peach schnapps to a pitcher and stir to combine. Cover and store until ready to serve. Add ice to glasses, add 3 ounces of liquor mixture, then top with 3-4 ounces of club soda along with a garnish.
  • Soda substitution: Club soda can be substituted with clear soda (like Sprite) instead. This will make your drink sweeter.
  • Garnish options: Cherry can be substituted with an orange slice or peach slice. Or remove the stem and slice your cherry halfway through. Then, add to the rim instead of floating on the ice.
