Light and refreshing, you’ll love this easy to make Watermelon Cocktail. Made from scratch using watermelon juice, lime juice, vodka, and triple sec.
This watermelon cocktail is going to be your go-to drink for the summer. A refreshing and sweet cocktail, it’s made with fresh watermelon and lime juice, served over ice.
I chose vodka for this recipe, but you’re welcome to use rum instead if you prefer. Triple sec is an orange flavored liqueur, and adds just a hint of citrus flavor that pairs well with watermelon.

What kind of watermelon do I need?
For this recipe, I have used seedless and seeded watermelon. Both work fine, but I preferred the seedless, because I didn’t want to blend the black seeds into the juice.
If you’re curious, you CAN blend watermelon seeds. They’re also perfectly fine to eat.
However, I wanted to make sure my drinks turned out beautifully pink, with no specks of seeds in sight. They may also strain out in the next step, but I haven’t tried it myself.
Seeded watermelon is generally juicier and more flavorful, so I prefer it if it’s available.
How do I blend watermelon?
Blending watermelon is extremely easy. First, you will cut your watermelon into chunks and toss them in the blender. Then, you’ll pulse gently a few times to get the watermelon going.
After that, it takes only a few seconds for the watermelon to blend into a smooth slushy liquid.
Once your watermelon is liquefied, you’re going to need to strain it through a fine mesh sieve before adding it to your drink. You’ll have a bit of watermelon pulp left over in your sieve. This can be tossed out.
Once you’ve strained your watermelon juice, the rest of the recipe comes together quickly. Simple juice a lime and add your vodka and triple sec.
I like to shake my watermelon cocktail up in a shaker before serving, because the watermelon juice is heavier and likes to settle at the bottom of the glass if you allow it.
Optionally, garnish with a small cube of watermelon, a lime wedge, or mint leaves.
