Ingredients and substitutions

Strawberry slices and lemon slices floating in a wine glass
  • Rosé - Choose a rosé that you enjoy on its own. The wine you choose serves as the base of the recipe and adds the majority of the flavor.
  • Triple sec - Can be substituted with any orange liqueur like grand marnier, cointreau, or curacao (not blue curacao).
  • Club soda - Use any club soda, mineral water, or sparkling water. Club soda can be plain or flavored, like lemon-lime or strawberry club soda.
  • Fruit - Sliced strawberries and lemon slices add a light, fresh flavor to the sangria.

How to make strawberry lemon sangria

Two glasses of strawberry lemon rose sangria with lemon slices in the background.
  1. Add sliced strawberries and lemons to the bottom of a pitcher.
  2. Top with rosé, triple sec, and club soda.
  3. Stir gently to combine.
  4. Serve immediately or store until ready to serve.

Tips and tricks

Use ingredients you enjoy - I recommend choosing a wine that you enjoy on its own. If you don't enjoy rosé, moscato, pinot grigio, or riesling make great alternatives.

Taste is most important - Your wine doesn't need to be expensive but should taste good to you (especially before adding other ingredients). If you don't enjoy the wine on its own, you likely won't enjoy a sangria made with it either.

Club soda variations - Try adding different flavors of club soda to create a new flavor variation. Choose a flavor like citrus or strawberry that complements the flavor notes in your wine.

Make ahead

If you'd like to make your sangria ahead, it can be prepared up to 24 hours in advance and stored in the refrigerator. Omit the club soda and stir it in just before serving. If the club soda sits in the sangria too long, it will lose its carbonation.

Frequently asked questions

What wine is best for sangria?

Choose a rosé or white wine that you enjoy - I recommend pinot grigio, riesling, or moscato. Keep in mind that the sweeter the wine, the sweeter the sangria will turn out.

Can I use cheap wine for sangria?

Yes, sangria is a great way to use up an inexpensive bottle of wine.

What other fruits can I add to my sangria?

The strawberries and lemon slices can be substituted with peaches, raspberries, or orange slices. The variations are endless!
