Looking for a new unique snack or dessert treat? Make a batch of everything bagel ice cream.

It's a combination of sweet cream cheese ice cream and flavorful streusel filled with salt, garlic, poppy seeds, and sesame seeds. Sweet & salty snack lovers, you're going to want to give this a try!

While you may need an acquired taste for this ice cream, I think it's perfect for those nights when you're craving a salty and sweet snack! If you're feeling adventurous and looking for a unique dessert experience, this ice cream may be for you.

Ingredients and substitutions

Ingredients on a counter top.
  • Heavy cream - Necessary to make no churn ice cream. Heavy cream, or heavy whipping cream, is whipped and folded with the other ice cream ingredients to make a fluffy, aerated base.
  • Sweetened condensed milk - The base of your ice cream. Sweetened condensed milk adds sweetness and creaminess. Homemade or store bought sweetened condensed milk will work in this recipe.
  • Cream cheese - Either original or low fat will work, as long as you're using an 9-ounce brick.
  • Butter - I highly recommend using unsalted butter in your streusel because you're adding salty flavor from the addition of everything bagel seasoning.
  • Flour - The base of the streusel. I have only tested this recipe with all-purpose flour, so I can't say whether other types of flour would turn out.
  • Sugars - Brown sugar and granulated sugar are both added to the streusel for sweetness and a bit of caramel flavor.
  • Everything bagel seasoning - Can be found at many grocery stores across the country. You can also find it on Amazon:
    • Trader Joe's - Everything but the bagel seasoning
    • Olde Thompson - Everything bagel seasoning (this is what I use)
    • Badia - Everything bagel seasoning mix
  • Vanilla extract (not pictured) - While the original Jeni's ice cream flavor did not include vanilla, I find that it enhances the sweet flavor of the ice cream and balances out the salty streusel.

Tips and tricks

Making everything bagel streusel on a sheet pan.

Mixing the streusel - Mix together the melted butter, flour, sugars, and everything bagel seasoning until it looks wet and clumps together. A hand mixer can make this step easier but is not required. If your streusel looks wet, add a bit more flour. If your streusel looks dry, add more melted butter.

Baking the streusel - Spread your streusel onto a parchment lined baking sheet and bake for about 15 minutes. Allow your streusel to cool completely before adding to your ice cream. It will melt and deflate your whipped cream if added warm.

Mixing ingredients to make ice cream.

Making whipped cream - Use a hand mixer with a whisk attachment and mix your heavy cream on medium speed until stiff peaks are achieved. Once your cream begins to hold its shape in the bowl, turn the mixer off and lift the whisk out. If the tip of the whipped cream holds it shape without drooping, your whipped cream is ready.

Fold gently - Use gentle folding strokes when adding streusel to avoid deflating your light and airy ice cream base.

Storage

Everything bagel ice cream will keep for up to three months in a tightly sealed, freezer safe container.

Frequently asked questions

A white bowl filled with everything bagel ice cream.
Does this taste like Jeni's everything bagel ice cream?

This unique ice cream flavor was first introduced by Jeni's ice cream in early 2021 and again in 2022 as a limited edition flavor. It was extremely hard to find and sold out quickly. I made this recipe in 2021 because it had sold out and I didn't get a chance to try it. By using educated guesses based on the ingredient list, I created this recipe.
I was able to try the 2022 release and was surprised to find that it had less savory flavor than I expected. Their version is a bit sweeter with a mild everything bagel flavor. To make this ice cream closer to the original, I'd recommend cutting the everything bagel seasoning in half.

What does everything bagel ice cream taste like?

The ice cream base is rich and creamy and tastes a bit like cheesecake. Everything bagel seasoning adds a distinct savory flavor to the sweet streusel (specifically garlic and onion). Together, they make a unique salty and sweet flavor combination that may feel confusing at first. If you're a salty and sweet fan, I suggest giving it a try!

What size pan do I need?

A 9x5 loaf pan is the ideal size for this no churn ice cream recipe. However, any freezer safe container will work. Try using a large tupperware container with a tightly sealing container.

How long does it take for ice cream to freeze?

This depends on the temperature of your freezer. It takes my freezer about 4 to 5 hours to freeze ice cream, but it could take as long as 8 hours or overnight.

My brother made this today for a potluck party we went to! He adapted the recipe for his ninja creami. It got mixed reactions - a majority liked it, but those who didn't Did Not Like it. I loved it!! But my brother strongly disliked it. Well, thank you for a fun recipe!
