This buffalo ranch chex mix is a crowd-pleasing snack recipe. Plus, it's easy to make with just a few minutes of prep. You'll have a crunchy, savory snack for a crowd in no time!

Buffalo sauce and ranch seasoning add tons of flavor to this party mix. It's filled with crunchy chex mix, pretzel twists, cheese crackers, and salted peanuts.

This recipe makes a large batch of buffalo ranch chex mix. It's great for football parties, tailgating, and movie night with the family. It's also great to keep a batch in the pantry all week long for easy after-school snacking.

    Ingredients and substitutions

Single serve bowls filled with chex mix.
    • Chex cereal - Corn or rice chex are my two preferred options when making chex mix. Feel free to use your favorite variety.
    • Cheese crackers - Small cheese crackers like Cheez-it brand or goldfish crackers work well in this recipe.
    • Pretzels - Pretzel twists, snaps, or sticks are all great choices.
    • Peanuts - Lightly salted or unsalted peanuts work well in this recipe. For nut allergies, omit the peanuts and add another cup of chex cereal, pretzels, or cheese crackers.
    • Butter - I recommend unsalted butter since the crunchy ingredients are already salted.
    • Buffalo sauce - Use your favorite brand of buffalo sauce for this recipe.
    • Ranch seasoning - I used homemade ranch seasoning, but store bought ranch seasoning will also work.

    What is ranch?

Ranch dressing is a popular savory salad dressing in the US and Canada that's made with buttermilk and herbs. The key flavors of ranch are dill, chives, and parsley.

For this recipe, we're using ranch seasoning, which is a dry seasoning blend made with those herbs and spices you'd find in ranch dressing.

    Ranch seasoning

If you already have some of my ranch seasoning mix on hand, this recipe uses three tablespoons of prepared mix.

One envelope of store-bought ranch seasoning contains about 2 tablespoons. So you'll need about 1.5 packets, or 3 tablespoons measured from a larger ranch seasoning container.

    Extra spicy

Want to make your buffalo ranch chex mix extra spicy? Try adding ¼ to ½ teaspoon of cayenne pepper along with the ranch seasoning.

Have a favorite hot sauce? Add a few dashes of hot sauce to the buffalo dressing to amp up the heat.

    Storing

Homemade chex mix will keep for about 1 to 2 weeks in a tightly sealed airtight container at room temperature.
