Ingredients and substitutions

Ingredients on a counter top.
  • Ginger ale - Adds a lightly spiced, ginger flavor and carbonation to the punch.
  • Apple cider - Apple cider is a fruit beverage that's available seasonally in the fall. It's made with apples and is essentially an unfiltered apple juice. If you can't find apple cider, it can be substituted with apple juice instead.
  • Pineapple juice - Adds sweetness and fruity flavor.

Tips and tricks

Serve with ice - Serve your punch alongside a bucket of ice, so guests can add ice to their own glasses without watering down the punch.

Make a large ice cube ring - If you'd like to keep the punch cold without watering it down, fill a bundt cake pan partially with water and freeze. This creates one large ice cube ring that's the perfect size for a punch bowl.

Use a large ice cube tray - Small ice cubes melt quickly and water down your punch. Use large ice cubes instead. These large ice cube trays on Amazon could make a great addition to your punch bowl.

Frequently asked questions

What is apple cider?

Apple cider is essentially an unfiltered apple juice that's commonly found in the fall months in the US. It's made with apples - that's it. If you can't find apple cider, apple juice works great as a substitute.

Can I make this ahead?

Combine the pineapple juice and apple cider and store in a pitcher until ready to serve. Add the ginger ale just before serving to prevent it from going flat.

How much punch do I need for a party?

For a short event serving only cake, you'll need 4-8 ounces per person. For a longer event with appetizers, you may need up to 12 ounces per person. Here is a helpful article: How to Calculate Punch for a Party.

If you were to add alcohol to this, what could you use? Thanks!

Hi Emily, I think spiced rum would make a great addition!
