Fall sangria is a white wine sangria that's flavored with cinnamon, apple cider, fresh apples, and oranges. This recipe comes together in minutes and is great for a crowd.

You'll love this fall sangria because it's filled with your favorite fall flavors. Serve sangria at your next fall party, like Halloween, Thanksgiving, around the campfire, or tailgating.

To get started, grab your favorite bottle of white wine to use as the base - I used a bottle of pinot grigio. Next you'll need apple cider, apples and oranges to add fresh fruit flavor.

Last, some fireball whisky adds a kick of warm, cozy cinnamon. If you love apple cinnamon drinks, you may also enjoy my apple pie cocktail recipe.

Ingredients and substitutions

Sliced apples and oranges in a fall harvest sangria.
  • White wine - I recommend grabbing a bottle of your favorite white wine for this recipe. Pinot grigio, riesling, and moscato are great choices for a white wine sangria.
  • Apple cider - Apple cider is a seasonal, non-alcoholic, uncarbonated beverage in the US that is commonly found in the fall months. It's essentially an unfiltered apple juice, and may be labeled as cloudy apple juice in other countries. If you can't find apple cider, apple juice can be used instead.
  • Fireball whisky - Fireball adds cinnamon flavor to your sangria. This can be substituted with bourbon or brandy for a different flavor. Choose a flavor you'll enjoy.
  • Fruit - Sliced apples and oranges add flavor and color to your sangria. Pears are another great choice.
  • Club soda - Can be substituted with ginger ale to add ginger flavor and a little extra sweetness.
  • Garnish - Cinnamon sticks add a little kick of extra cinnamon flavor, but are entirely optional if you don't have any on hand.

Tips and tricks

Use ingredients you enjoy - Whenever wine is used in a recipe, I always recommend using a wine that you enjoy on its own. Choose your favorite bottle of white wine, like a pinot grigio, riesling, or moscato.

Taste is most important - Your wine doesn't need to be expensive but should taste good to you (especially before adding other ingredients). If you don't enjoy the wine on its own, you likely won't enjoy a sangria made with it either.

Frequently asked questions

What wine is best for sangria?

Choose a white wine that you enjoy - I recommend pinot grigio, riesling, or moscato. Keep in mind that the sweeter the wine, the sweeter the sangria will turn out.

Can I use cheap wine for sangria?

Yes, sangria is a great way to use up an inexpensive bottle of wine.

What is the difference between apple cider and apple juice?

Both are non-alcoholic, uncarbonated apple beverages in the US. The main difference is the filtration process. Apple cider is unfiltered, which is why it has a cloudy appearance. Apple cider is also known as cloudy apple juice in other countries. If you can't find apple cider, apple juice makes a great substitute in this recipe.

Can fall sangria be made ahead?

If you'd like to make your sangria ahead, it can be prepared up to 24 hours in advance and stored in the refrigerator. Simply omit the club soda and stir it in just before serving. If the club soda sits in the sangria too long, it will lose its carbonation.
